Sclerotherapy

Many people are concerned by unwanted veins that appear on their legs, face or elsewhere. These veins may be spider veins or varicose veins, and their cause is unknown. Spider veins tend to be thinner and may look like branches of a tree. Varicose veins tend to be bigger and can be raised from the skin. These veins can cause pain or they may just be unsightly, but in either case they can be removed with sclerotherapy.

What is it?

Sclerotherapy is a procedure used to treat unwanted blood vessels. A solution, called the sclerosing solution, is injected through a very fine needle, directly in to the veins. The sclerosing solution irritates the lining of the vessels, causing them to turn to scar tissue and eventually fade or disappear. Occasionally veins must be injected several times, but most patients see a 50% to 90% improvement. We tend to treat larger veins with Cutera CoolGlide® laser vein removal.
