Intense Pulsed Light

Diminish brown blotches, red patches and fine lines

Brown marks triggered by years of sun exposure gradually enlarge and darken with time and are identifiable signs of aging. Sometimes people who have taken good care of their faces are concerned that the “liver spots“ on their hands, which are really due to the sun, make them look older. Red blotches, whether from rosacea or sun exposure, also increase with time, and the red and brown are often found in the same areas.

Intense pulsed light treatments, because there is a broad band of wavelengths, can target both these colours with each treatment. As an added bonus, with a series of treatments, the dermis is stimulated to produce extra collagen, which softens fine lines and scars and improves the texture and tone of the skin. Acne patients may also benefit from the reduction in red, brown and scars, and when the light is combined with Levulan, a drug to increase light sensitivity, the combination, called photodynamic therapy, is even more powerful.
