A
bit about photofacials…
Photofacials are normally done in a series of treatments, often 4,
3 to 4 weeks apart. Many people like them so much they rejuvenate
a series of areas, perhaps starting with the face and moving on to
the neck, upper chest and hands. A microdermabrasion can be done a
few days before the first treatment to remove dead outer layers of
skin so the light penetrates more deeply and is more effective. You
do not want to be tanned or using artificial tanning creams prior
to a treatment as the light is designed to remove brown. For the same
reason, dark skinned people need to use other types of treatment.
You may notice some redness or localized puffiness after a treatment,
which can be helped with ice. Brown spots may crisp and darken slightly
before peeling off. You will be able to return to work the next day,
but if you have an important social event, it would be safer to leave
it until a week after the treatment. The photofacials cover all of
the skin in an area, not just the blotches. They need to be more gentle
to cover such a wide area, which is why a series of treatments is
required. Do not plan to get a lot of sun for a few weeks after a
treatment. As a rule, once you remove the sun damage, you will want
to use sunscreen daily to preserve the benefits, and to decrease the
need for maintenance treatments.
